TAMPA, FLORIDA – Almost eleven months after the Basham Brother’s first reign as WWE Tag Team Champions ended,
Doug and Danny defeated Booker T & Eddie Guerrero, Luther Reigns & Mark Jindrak, and Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio to capture their second WWE Tag Team Championship.
With an assist from Eddie Guerrero, Doug Basham picked up the pinfall over Jindrak. Then, after Booker and Eddie were eliminated,
and RVD was unable to finish the match due to a severe knee injury, the Bashams double teamed Mysterio, and used a sit-down
powerbomb to pick up the victory.
Later in the night, WWE.com ran into the Bashams in the backstage hallways of the St. Petersburg Times Forum. Here’s
what they had to say:
WWE.com: Congratulations on winning the WWE Tag Team titles. How does it feel to be two-time champs?
Doug:
That’s right, two-time WWE Tag Team Champions. How can you describe that feeling other than saying, “I
feel great!”
Danny: Oh it feels amazing, and it’s a long time in the making. We stepped back
for the past few months, and we developed a hunger. So now things are turning around for the Basham Brothers.
Doug:
In 2005, the Basham Brothers are going to come alive, and we proved it tonight. So we’ve only just begun to make an
impact.
WWE.com: Does winning a four-way tag team elimination match against three of the best teams on SmackDown!
prove that you guys are the best?
Doug: What kind of a question is that? Of course it proves we are the
best.
Danny: Just what my brother said, it proves that we are the very best tag team on SmackDown!.
Not only did we beat the reigning WWE Tag Team Champions, we defeated two other teams in one match. That’s unheard of.
WWE.com: Do you think that Rob Van Dam competing with an injured knee, and leaving the match early have
any bearing on the result?
Danny: That has absolutely no bearing on anything. If Rob Van Dam had stepped
foot in that ring, he would have gotten his @$$ handed to him just like everybody else in that match did.
Doug:
And in my opinion, I think RVD was scared. He used his knee as an excuse not to get in that ring with the Bashams, because
he knew what was going to happen.
Danny: It was really a cowardly act on RVD’s part, because he
knew what was going to happen to him if the Bashams got a hold of him.
WWE.com: How do you think becoming members of JBL’s Cabinet has helped your careers?
Danny: It has elevated us straight to the top.
Doug:
How has it not helped our careers? Before JBL took us into his cabinet, we weren’t doing much. And now look at us –
WWE Tag Team Champions.
Danny: We are the premier tag team here on SmackDown!.
WWE.com: What does this win do for the Cabinet?
Doug: Obviously it brings more gold
into the Cabinet. Are you blind? Can you not see? What are you, a moron?
Danny: Without a doubt, it definitely
strengthens the Cabinet. I mean, not like we weren’t strong enough before, but now we’ve got the gold to back
it up.
Doug: You know what, there’s just one more title that we need.
Danny:
That’s right, we’re just missing one more title – the United States Championship.
WWE.com: What kind of Tag Team Champions are you two going to make?
Doug: (laughing)
The greatest of course. You really are a moron.
Danny: When it’s all said and done, the Basham Brothers
are going to go down as the very best tag team this company has ever seen, period.
Doug: I mean, take
a look at the Cabinet itself. You have JBL, the greatest WWE Champion ever, with one of the longest reigns ever, and now you
have the Basham Brothers – two-time WWE Tag Team Champions, and the greatest tag team ever.
Danny:
My brother just said it all.
